Cartoonless Days

Today is Day 3 of our 'Cartoonless' Weekdays in the house. Yes, I finally decided to put a stop on my Li'l girl's daily cartoon watching. I should say she has been quite addicted to cartoons lately. FOr the past weeks, everytime she wakes up her first question will be , ' Can I watch cartoons now?' and so I have explain to her her sked for the day ( breakfast, reading lesson, activities, cartoons, lunch, play , nap..) but still in between, she'll be asking and insisting to watch Little Einsteins ( her fave for now).

The final blow came when we were doing our reading lesson and she wasn't concentrating at all. Her mind was like wandering. So, I thought that maybe she's just tired and I went on teaching my 'bored' student. But right after I said, "okay, we're done!". She was so excited and asked, 'Can I watch Little Einsteins now?' . Aha!! That's why she wasnt' concentrating! All along her mind has been on her cartoons. I got annoyed by her being so into her cartoons and I think her 'obsession' for it has gone quite far. Thus, I decided to let her watch only on weekends.

So far, her cartoonless days has been good. I think her days now are more productive. Her concentration is better for our lessons, she has more time to do her activity books and play with her toys. THough there are times she's so restless and that's when I have to create something for her to do. But still from time to time ( I think when she remembers her cartoons) she asks, "When is Saturday coming". Hahahha! That also gave me an idea to teach her the 7 days of the week.

Anyways, I'm glad of this decision. It seemed cruel at first but I'm sure she'll get use to it and it'll make her weekends more enjoyable.

You did the right thing, by turning off the cartoons, I think kids watch way to much TV nowadays., when my kids were small they spent most of their time outdoors playing with other kids and learning to interact. Nowadas I know parents are afraid to let their kids outside, so often kids are either on the computer or watching t.v. keep up the good work..Nippercat

Hi Lalaine.
That was a good move on your part. My nephew, he's also addicted to cartoons that you can't take him away from the television.
Kumusta na kayo sa Bangkok? I will be in Phuket for the whole month of July, will pass by Bangkok for a day or two siguro. Ingat!
