Mommy Moments - Welcoming A New Sibling

Year 2007

The theme for this week's Mommy Moments is " Welcoming a new sibling" and I'm going to share about how we prepared our first born for this experience.

By the time we planned to have our second baby, we have already started giving hints to our first born about the possibility for her to have a sibling. Of course she was excited as she already came to a stage that she's so bored being along in the house and no one to play with. Then, I got pregnant. During my pregnancy, our li'l girl prays for her baby 'brother' inside my tummy. We actually didn't know yet whether the baby in my tummy will be a girl or a boy but she did prayed in faith for a 'baby brother'. In other words, my li'l girl was so prepared to be a big sister. When her li'l brother was born, she likes to help me watch over her brother and has been so helpful to me in many ways. There were a few times when she would want attention but I guess that's a very normal reaction for a child.

But guess what, I think my li'l girl's 'struggle' came when her li'l brother grew a bit older. He's a bit tough and he's very assertive. He wants everything his sister has. our li'l girl on the other hand can share her stuff but she also has her limitations. So, now that that my boy is 2 and my li'l girl is 5, there have been more fights and conflicts than before. But of course, they still have a lot of happy and playful times together and you can't deny that they still love and adore each other even with their petty fights.

I had the same problem with my kids. Syempre the bunso is more assertive cause Ate is being protective and she doesn't want to hurt the lil brother. But it will come a time that Ate will assert her being the eledest, and that's what I told my eldest. As long as they don't get physical with each other. Good luck to us Mommy!
