The Disaster Cake

Oh, I'm just getting old. I just made my first 'disaster cake' yesterday. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. It was actually our friends' son's 1st birthday and I wanted to make a small birthday cake for him. I was already quite bored of baking the usual Choco Moist Cake, so I tried out baking the marble cake.

My li'l girl, as usual was so excited to help me out. If you can remember, we baked our first bread about 2-3 weeks ago. So, when it was time for me to put the flour, I actually got a little bit confused since I had 2 full containers of flour. I got one container thinking it was a wheat flour. I was even telling myself that I'm making a healthy marble cake.

Then, we proceeded to bake the cake and thought we were very successful with it. I made a royal icing and sprinkled the little cake with candy sprinkles and asked my daughter to decorate it herself.

Whenever I give a cake to a friend, I usually bake 2, one for our friend and one for my kids. Then, since my li'l boy was drooling at the site of the cakes, I let him and my daughter eat a slice from our cake. My li'l boys face changed and said, " Yuck! I don't like it!". My daughter on the other hand was eating very slowly but not with usual excitement whenever she eats my cake. I already guessed something was wrong. And when I tasted it, the cake really had a different taste and smell. It was only then I remembered that the flour I used was the BREAD FLOUR!!!. Oh, no! That's why it has the 'yeasty' smell and taste. If you've smelled yeast mixed with water before, then you would know what I mean. LOL!

So, there goes my disaster cake. I decided not to continue with my plan in giving a layer of the cake to my friend. It's too embarrassing for me to give it to them. :(
