Newborn Screening

While I was updating myself with Philhealth’s requirements regarding my son’s hospitalization here in Thailand, I was happy to know that newborn screening can now be availed from our Philhealth insurance. All you have to do is to subscribe to the Newborn Care Package in the nearest Philhealth office with an additional yet affordable fee. I am happy not because I want a 3rd child in the family, but I'm happy for the pregnant mothers whose babies will benefit from this test.
The newborn screening test is required so find out if the baby was born with any metabolic disorders that will affect his body’s normal processes and functions. This is one good opportunity for us to be sure that our babies will be healthy when they grow up.
Mother’s who gave birth to babies with congenital defects and deformities will also be asked by the doctors if they have taken any drugs during their pregnancy. In the latest study today, the drug called Topamax have been found to increase the risk of birth defects in babies. You can file a Topamax lawsuit if you or a loved one has taken this drug during their pregnancy.
