I've just been reading one of the articles in a homeschool forum that I'm subscribed to. It seems there's some kind of 'rules' set out in certain countries that homeschooling is only permitted to grade school or elementary aged children and not for higher years. The reason given is that the parents' knowledge wont be 'adequate' to teach the children of a higher level. I was a bit shocked with this and the seemingly lack of knowledge of whoever handed down this rule.
I mean, homeschooling has been existing for several years now and surprisingly many of these homeschool graduates have done well in the universities and are now professionals or successful in their chosen careers. Aside from that, there are also several homeschool materials that are really good and meant only to 'facilitate' the student's development and thus won't be needed for a parent/s to be knowledgeable on the subjects.
I'm also not sure on what being 'adequate' means for that person in authority. Does in mean the parents need some kind of teaching degrees in order to homeschool their kids or what?
Anyways, I guess this is because homeschooling is not a 'norm' and several people are still skceptical about it while some still think that 'traditional' schools are the best and only effective school system.
