I'm known to be one of the diligent students way back in High School. I'm not naturally smart but I did excel for awhile as I diligently did my studies.
But when it was time for me to go to the University, I found out that sometimes to pass a subject, it required more than diligence. One must be resourceful, have guts and courage. I didn't have those. Back in high school, I would say that every material that is needed to be studied is 'fed' to us. So, it was fairly easy for me. I just read and 'memorized' all the important things in the book and then I was okay. But in the University, it was different, we didn't even have proper books to start off. On some subjects we had readings and while the rest we had to research at the library. Yes, that was before the age of the internet ( poor us!). So, I was kinda lost as to which material I should read and study.
Anyways, there was this subject that I dreaded. We were required to make a case study about our chosen topic, write report about it and then defend it in front of our professor. During those days, thesis, case study or dissertation help wasn't available in the internet yet. So, I never got to see some dissertation proposal samples and the like. We were only required to make a case study but it already seemed like a dissertation for me. So, I did use my library card a lot as I researched about my topic, wrote it and brought it to the computer shop for encoding. Those were the days, when printers were still in black with the noisy sound as it prints the paper.
After a few weeks of doing my case study, the defense was slowly approaching. My friend actually was before me and I saw her on the way to the office for my turn. I saw her crying and so broken. She said, the questions were so difficult that she wasn't able to answer. And that was then I felt like going back to my dormitory and wishing that time would just stop. But I had to go on. I prayed and took courage to defend my case study. I can't remember much what happened during that time. All I remember is that I somehow knew the answers our professor was asking me. And then it ended. Whew!! I had a great sigh of relief and felt like jumping up and down on the way back to the dormitory! Thank God!
