Many families have really been affected by the floods here in Cagayan de Oro City. I can’t imagine how every affected family has been coping now especially after the most recent flood yesterday. I thank God that even though we were badly affected and lost some of our belongings but God has provided a lot of people to help us. Just like now, we have a very comfortable temporary place to live in while our house is being cleaned up and repaired.
But this afternoon, when our family rode a taxi to do our groceries at SM, I was able to talk to the driver about the flood. The driver updated me of the damages of yesterday’s flood. When I asked him if they’ve been hit by the flood, his voice changed and told me that they have been badly affected by the January 3 Flood. He lives in Isla de Oro an island at the middle of the Cagayan river! The water rose more than 6 feet in that area and it practically made the island underwater. He recounted how he tried to save their most ‘precious’ belongings but wasn’t able to do so. They went to their Barangay Hall to stay for the night but then it was also so wet, so they ended going back to their house which was full of mud. They also just received their bag of groceries and relief goods from the government yesterday.
I couldn’t help but be touched by his family’s experience and was moved to give him a very big tip as a help for their family. When we gave him the money, he was already teary eyed and was thanking us so many times. We just told him that God bless him and went on our way.
Thinking about this now, made me realize that there are a lot more people there who have been badly affected and needs help. It would be impossible for us to help everyone but my Hubby and I are encouraged to help and pray as much as we can for these people.

that's pretty sad. i remember when we had flood in my place, we also evacuated.. and we lost a lot of things. but of course, the good part was.. we got boxes of nissins ramen noodles... my favorite.
